She's about to play Bona in the PETA stage adaptation of the Lino
Brocka-Nora Aunor classic film, with Soxie Topacio directing and Layeta
Bucoy adapting the script. Edgar Allan Guzman co-stars in the Philip
Salvador role, but this time as a TV talent search matinee idol.
Quite an ideal pairing--the Best Actress and Best Actor, respectively, in last year's Cinemalaya (she for Ang Babae sa Septic Tank, he for Ligo Na U, Lapit Na Me). But how are they on stage? Here's early--and very reliable--buzz:
From Rody Vera's FB: Watched a mid-rehearsal preview of Bona. Qute Berd [Eugene] pulled it off exquisitely as this comic-turned-berserk Medea of our time. Galing din ng cast: I don't know all their names--pero tagos ang performances nina Edgar Allan Guzman, that boy who played Bingo, Uleb Nieto as Bona's sis, Joey Paras, etc. Exciting. this 3rd week of August sa PETA Theater Center.

Just last night, we saw two scene excerpts from the play performed by Eugene, Edgar Allan and Joey Paras at the presscon held at the PETA Theater Center. Rody is right. Bona is shaping up to be one riveting show.
La Domingo then peppered the Q&A with her irrepressible one-liners, viz:
• On her take on 'Bona': Consciously iba, kasi kahit banlian nyo ako ng kumukulong tubig, di ko kaya ang nagawa ni Nora dun!
• On her dream stage roles: Sabi nila bagay daw ako sa Mother Courage, pero bata pa'ko. Gusto ko talaga mag-zarzuela ulit, feeling ko sarswelista at bodabelista talaga ako.
• On the challenge of working in theater: No screen bigger than theater! But no talent fee bigger than [in] TV! Kaya o, wala ako sinasahod, dalawang buwan na!
